Trump Gains Support from 25% of Young Black Men in Recent Poll

A new poll shows that more than a quarter of young Black men are likely to back President Donald Trump in the general election on November 5. That Black voters — and specifically, younger Black voters and Black men across age groups — grew disillusioned under President Joe Biden is not news to anyone who follows American politics closely.

Black voters played a pivotal role in Biden's 2020 victory, and now, Vice President Kamala Harris is diligently working to secure those votes once again on November 5. A poll conducted by the NAACP from August 6-12 among 1,000 registered Black voters found that nearly two-thirds63% — plan to vote for Harris and just 13% support Trump.

Trump leads 49-26% with Black men under the age of 50 over Harris. Among men 50 and older, 77% support Harris. Breaking it down by race, 67% of Black women said they'd vote for Harris, and only 8% preferred Trump.

Even then, the economy, crime, and public safety are top-tier issues for Black voters. The cost of food, housing, and utilities are among the top economic worries. Eighty-two percent of Black men younger than 50 say financial issues are the most pertinent concern, as do 75% of Black women.
