Palmeiras is defeated by Botafogo in an incredible Copa Libertadores match

In the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores Round of 16, Botafogo pulled off a spectacular upset by defeating overwhelming favourites Palmeiras in a chaotic match that saw Botafogo win 3-2 overall despite securing a 2-2 draw on the road.

Igor Jesus' goal for Botafogo opened the score in the 58th minute, concluding a team movement that began with a throw-in. Jefferson Savarino increased the lead with a superb counterattack in the 65th minute, just seven minutes later, making the score 0-2.
But Palmeiras struck back, giving the supporters a glimpse of hope with a goal in the 87th minute and then levelling the score 2-2 through Rony. They even scored what appeared to be the winning goal, 3-2, but VAR stepped in and stopped the goal that would have required penalties, ensuring Palmeiras' elimination from the competition and defeat.

As a consequence, Botafogo goes to the CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores Quarterfinals, where they will play the winner of São Paulo vs. Nacional, which is now tied 0-0 on aggregate. Palmeiras says goodbye to the competition, missing Endrick.
