Major decline in visas for health workers and dependent students observed in the UK

On Thursday, August 22, the number of visas granted to foreign health and care workers and the families of international students in the UK was significantly reduced.

This is because of limitations put in place by the previous Conservative government to reduce net migration, according to Reuters.

For a very long time, migration has been a major political problem in Britain.

In an effort to lessen the number of foreign caregivers and students entering the UK last year, former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak restricted the number of family members that post-graduate students may bring with them.

The number of health and care worker visas issued by the UK in the year that ended in June was 89,095, a 26% decrease from the year before.

Compared to the same period previous year, fewer of these visas were granted between April and June, by an 81% margin.

The outlet claims that the previous administration's stricter visa regulations included increasing the minimum wage criteria and preventing caregivers from bringing family members.

For the year that ended in June, 432,225 visas were issued to foreign students attending British universities, a 13% drop from the previous year.

Furthermore, compared to the same period last year, the number of visas granted to dependents of international students fell by 81% to 11,675 in the first half of this year.
