Israel Targets Hezbollah Leader Safieddine: Implications for Nasrallah |
Following the murder of Chief Hassan Nasrallah, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) continued attacking Iran-supported Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon.
As reported by CNN, the news agency had been told by an Israeli source that air strikes were carried out in the Lebanese capital early on Friday, October 04, 2024, against the Hezbollah senior commander Hashem Safieddine.
Safieddine is among the senior officials of the group and a possible contender for the leadership position once held by Hassan Nasrallah, the former Hezbollah chief who was killed in an Israeli missile offensive on September 27.
It is unknown if the target initiated a counterattack that killed; so far, there have been no comments from Hezbollah regarding the attack, nor has there been any public communication from the IDF denying the abstinence of the target from saying they have abstained from issuing any public communication.
Besides, the Israeli army has made fresh evacuation notices to people to buildings, which have capped off the area for at least 500metres from the location of the building said the residents of the two structures recently, to the southern suburbs of Beirut, have more power as the international forces are ready to strike the said sites shortly.
It is important to note that Sainte Therese Hospital is about 500 meters from one of the buildings that was attacked.
Additionally, according to the Lebanese health ministry, at least 37 people lost their lives on the same day, while 151 others suffered injuries during the Israeli bombardment throughout the country.
