Steve Smith Surprises with Compliment: ‘Virat Kohli is Australian’

Australian opener Steve Smith spoke highly of former captain of Indian cricket team Virat Kohli, prior to the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

As per One Cricket, Smith in a recent video called Kohli ‘Australian’ due to the stress and fight in the sense.

Smith said to Star Sports posted on X (formerly Twitter), “As a matter of fact, I think that Virat Kohli thinks and acts that he is an Australian. The same approach he takes; the way, he gets into a battle. How he gets into the challenge and tries to go above the opposition. I think I would say that he’s probably the most Australian among all Indian players.” He further added, “Well, there’s no such thing as, alright, this is him and there’s no real I need to beat him or anything like that. Just go out there and play and try to score as much runs as I can and try and help win games for Australia. That’s what it’s all about.” Smith also said how regarding off the field he and the Indian batter share a good understanding. He said, “He is on good terms with us; we send messages from time to time. Look, he's a nice man and, as you know, a very good player. So, it would be good to face him again this summer." The Indian cricket team is to tour Australia from November 2024 to January 2025 for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy of five Test matches series edged for 22 November 2024.
