| Lebanon Faces Deadliest Day Since 2006: Civilians in Terror and Tension |
September 23, 2024, was the most brutal day in Lebanon as it suffered its bastaise period in decades, where airstrikes by Israel killed about 500 persons and at least 1,645 were injured.
CNN reported that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) boasted of having destroyed ‘over 1600 Hezbollah military locations in southern Lebanon and Bekaa’ in one day.
Common injuries that were observable were experienced in women and children, including the day after the heavy bombardments.
In addition, Health Minister Firass Abiad provisioned that it is estimated that thousands of families remain homeless as a result of the airstrikes.
The student from South of Lebanon, Nabatieh, reporting to BBCtt Zahra Sawli, says, “I woke up at 6 am with bombs going off around me. By noon, it became really bad, and I witnessed numerous missiles landing in my vicinity. I heard a lot of glass break.
Panic and chaos reigned all over the country, particularly southern Lebanon, due to the mass movement of people seeking to escape. The main coastal road to the capital from the south was jammed for several kilometers.
Sawli, who insisted on remaining at home, said further, “Where are we supposed to go? A lot of people are still stranded on the streets. As my friends are caught up in a terrible jam, many people leave the city.
It should be noted that the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has become more intense following Israel’s assault upon Gaza.
